Open planning meeting for Chicon 7

Chicon 7
The 70th World Science Fiction Convention
P.O. Box 13
Skokie, IL 60076

As you hopefully have heard, Chicago has been selected as the site for the World Science Fiction Convention in 2012. It’s a large event and we’re excited to be doing it. Who is “we” you may ask? Good question. If you’re reading this, it could be a group that includes *you*!
The convention will have staff from all over the world, but *most* of us will come from the area around Chicago. That staff will shape the convention…making sure that it does the best job it can to represent fandom in the Midwest. We want to showcase not only all the talented people we have here, we want to also make sure that the flavor of each of our regional conventions is represented at the Worldcon. To do that, we need your help. We are hosting an open planning meeting in a few weeks and if you’re reading this, you are invited to participate. The meeting will be held on Saturday, October 23rd and Sunday the 24th. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Chicago, which is the same location the convention will be held at in 2012. On Saturday we will be focusing on introducing people to each other and the current plans for the convention. On Sunday we will be focusing on discussing how we bring the flavor of the regional conventions to the Worldcon and what other items, programming, events or displays people would like to see done. We’d like you to come to the meeting, hear what we’ve got planned so far and then see if perhaps there are areas of the event that would be interesting for you to work on. If there are, we’d love you to join us!
For people coming in from out of town, there is some space available at the hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. Contact us at to let us know you’re interested and we will set you up.
So to repeat the specific information:
What: Open planning meeting for Chicon 7.
Where: The Hyatt Regency Hotel, 151 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, 60601.
When: Saturday, October 23rd, 10am -4pm and Sunday, October 24th, 10am-4pm, with a 90 minute lunch break each day.
Why: To join the team that will plan and pull off the convention!
If you have any questions about the convention, the open meeting or any other aspect of the plans...feel free to inquire via e-mail to and we’ll do our best to answer.
We look forward to seeing you there!

SFContario is a go!

SFContario is a go, with a hotel and guests of honour and everything.

The inaugural convention will take place November 19-21st 2010 at the Ramada Plaza in downtown Toronto. It's a lovely hotel that overlooks Allan Gardens, beautiful greenhouses and gardens that even many Torontonians have yet to discover, and is a stone's throw away from all the restaurants and attractions downtown Toronto has to offer.

While an announcement for Author Guest of Honour is yet to come we're thrilled to be able to announce that Patrick and Teresa Nielsen Hayden have agreed to be our Editor Guests of Honour, Geri Sullivan has agreed to be Fan Guest of Honour, and Karen Linsley has agreed to be our Filk Guest of Honour. We're pleased, honoured and excited to have every one of them.

MidFan website updated

I have not done the thorough overhaul it probably needs, but most of the information on has been updated so it no longer lists any organizational address (we don't have one right now - previously it listed two that were out of date, depending where you looked), the google calendar is embedded in the Convention List page instead of the out-of-date text list, the email lists page mentions this forum, the facebook group, and the yahoo discussion group, and the pages (mostly) no longer mention past events in the future tense.

While I was at it I created pdfs of the original 3 issues of Midfazine and linked to them on the MidFanzine page.

I also wrote to Bill Burns at to see about getting them archived there as well.

Please let me know if you see any issues or incorrect information on the website. I have not updated the Other Organizations page yet, but go ahead and mention it if there's something I should add there.
